WebGL-based Web Client

Accessing a 3D virtual world typically requires the installation of a standalone client application that needs to be versioned for each supported device platform and operating system configuration. Because of this, approaches for implementing a cross-platform virtual world client have been studied. This work has led to the development of a WebGL-based web client for realXtend Tundra virtual world platform. In the evaluaton, special attention has been put on the bottlenecks that hinder the performance of the web client on mobile devices. The web client relies on an entity-component model, which makes the definition of the 3D space very flexible, because 3D spaces consist only of entities that can be customized dynamically by modifying their components.
